- Entry permit is mandatory for every non-islander, including Indians, NRIs and children. Apply on the new portal lak.e-permit.utl.gov.in at least 14 days ahead (max six people per application). Tourists no longer need a sponsor or police clearance. Only islands named on the permit may be visited, so list Bangaram or Thinnakara if you plan a day trip. Fees are small (roughly ₹150–300 per person) — verify.
- Alcohol: the 1979 prohibition law was replaced by the Lakshadweep Excise Regulation 2026, but it starts on a date set by the Administrator and we could not confirm that date or any licensed outlet. Do not carry liquor in; penalties for unlicensed transport are severe and public drinking is an offence. Ask your resort before you travel.
- Rooms are few and most rates include all meals. Food is fish, coconut and rice, and vegetables come by boat, so tell the resort about vegetarian or Jain needs when booking. Book refundable flights only until the permit is approved.
- Monsoon: heavy rain and rough seas. Water sports are generally suspended June–August and resume slowly in September. Inter-island boats run in the fair season (October–May). Helicopter transfers are limited — verify.
